The pedagogical sailboat

THREE COMPONENTS
A virtual environment
Prototypes
A sailboat
  1. Pedagogical Sailboat’s competence framework : A catalogue listing the competencies and skills that the Pedagogical Sailboat targets and linking them to the official secondary education curricula.
  2. Pedagogical modules related to the the competences that can be acquired onboard a sailboat
Elements of the sailboat used in practical work session.
Students will build and  possibly improve an instrument for microplastics  sampling.
A real sailboat that turns into a classroom for practical work.  The students will use the schooner "Tirant Primer" of the Generalitat Valenciana

THREE FUNCTIONS
The scientific pedagogy
The technical pedagogy
The social pedagogy
Applicable to the sailboat environment (the sea and its biota): The aim is to develop a strong scientific background to launch citizen science projects with students. The focus now is on the pollution of the seas by microplastics.
Applicable to the sailboat and its various elements: the pulleys, the electrical assembly, the sensors such as the barometer and also the scientific instruments embedded: hydrophones, hydrometer etc.
In our first project students have built a microplastic sampling instrument: the manta net.
Applicable to the 'occupants' of the sailboat: develops transversal skills such as team spirit, leadership, communication, etc. Students in the social education sector  develop a mobility project with students with specific needs in the frame of citizen science campaign that targets the sampling of microplastics at sea on board a sailboat
